SCOO Beaufort/Cape Lookout Cruise July 13-17

Cruise Captains Lynn and Rick Edwards

Lynn and I always look forward to this uniquely beautiful location and have set aside 5 days for our cruise there. Weather permitting, we will spend the first night in Beaufort on July 13 before heading over to the Cape on the 14th.  It should be a fun and relaxing few days and we hope you’ll join us.

Each captain can set their own schedule and destinations for this cruise. We only ask that you keep your cruise captains informed of your plans once the cruise starts. If you have any questions, please text me (910)256-5893) or Lynn (443-742-3794).

We will send out our sail plan as we get closer to the cruise week and the weather/wind forecasts start to take shape. It is best to traverse Beaufort Inlet at slack tide, with an incoming tide as a second alternative. To find that specific time frame, the Tide Times or Tide Pro apps are great resources (select Beaufort Inlet Channel Range and click on Currents). However, we will publish exact slack tide times from Tide Pro as well as offshore wind/swell forecasts closer to the date.

We will be planning for 2 late afternoon potluck hors d’oeuvres and BYOB socials on the beach, and an evening sunset viewing. Of course, one of the main activities at Cape Lookout is relaxing on the beach, so be sure to bring your beach chairs, coolers, floats, kayaks and paddleboards if you wish. More specific details will be sent out to all members who sign up as the dates approach.

For first time sailors to the Cape:

Although not that far from the mainland, Cape Lookout is offshore from Shackleford Banks, with vast and windswept beaches, beautiful night skies and the Cape Lookout Lighthouse. There are opportunities for time at the beach, a dinghy ride to the lighthouse, watching the sunset and socializing with fellow SCOO members. There are no facilities at the Cape, so be prepared to be self-sufficient while there. Note: The anchorage is 20-30' deep, so have plenty of rode on your anchor.

We look forward to seeing everyone!

Your cruise captains,
Lynn and Rick
